In 2005 St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School formed a link with Busenya Catholic Primary School in Uganda, through the Guildford Mukono Charity Link, chaired by Tamsy Baker. Since then the schools have exchanged work and photos and are looking forward to further strengthening the link between curriculum areas.
This February half-term two enthusiastic teachers from St Thomas of Canterbury will be visiting Busenya School. Erica Higham and Amy McHugh, Year 3 and Year 6 teachers, are travelling to the Mukono District as part of St Thomas’ international link with the wider community. During the visit the two teachers will be sharing their skills, particularly, in the area of reading, as well as learning teaching styles used in Uganda. It will be a very interesting experience as the resources used at St Thomas’ will be very different to the resources used at Busenya. Projects have been started at St Thomas’ and will be continued whilst visiting Busenya Primary School. The trip has been made possible through fundraising and generous donations from families, and the two teachers are very excited to have the opportunity to visit their partner school and look forward to sharing their experiences on their return
