To enable all our children to enjoy, achieve and develop creativity, the curriculum is delivered through a thematic approach to teaching with each year group adopting a curriculum connector/theme.
We aim to deliver an inspiring curriculum and teaching and learning in all subjects is delivered through fostering cross-curricular links. To ensure balance and a secure grounding in the basic skills associated with all subjects, discrete teaching is also planned for. All children in Key Stage 2 receive specialist teaching in music and PE. A unit of modern foreign language, French, is taught in Year 6.
The curriculum presented at St Thomas of Canterbury School fulfils the requirements of the National Curriculum, embraces the principles of Every Child Matters and the recommendations of the Rose Report, 2009.
In the Foundation Stage, the curriculum is based on the Curriculum Guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage and the Surrey Early Years Guidelines. It conforms to the standards set for the learning, development and care of young children.
As an extended school, we also offer access to a range of services and activities which supports and motivates children to achieve their full potential
