Dear Parents,

Welcome to St Thomas of Canterbury Catholic Primary School’s website.

Ofsted visited St Thomas’ in March 2008 and recognised that we provide an environment where learning is enjoyable and where children feel safe and happy. Every child is a unique individual and we encourage them to explore and develop their learning skills, grow with confidence and enthusiasm, learn how to accept responsibility, and, very importantly, strive to reach their full potential in a Catholic setting. The full Ofsted report is available on the website or via the Ofsted website at www.ofsted.gov.uk  In March 2011 Ofsted carried out an online review of the performance of our school, and I am delighted to say that St Thomas’ is still continuing to meet its outstanding criteria, a copy of their assessment is available on their website. Our aim is to continue to build on the strengths of our school, and to deliver the best possible education for every child.

As a faith school, the Catholic ethos of St Thomas’ is very important. Gospel values permeate everything that takes place in our school, and children’s spiritual development is carefully nurtured. There are many opportunities for children to participate in the religious life of our school. We have termly class assemblies to which parents are warmly invited, and each year group hosts a prayer service for parents and extended family. Our links with the Parish and Community are very important and our Harvest Festival celebrations, May Fayre and other school events are well supported by the local and parish community as well as the school community.

We believe in working in partnership with Parents and hold regular curriculum evenings where Parents are invited to come into school to see and find out what the children will be studying. Class newsletters are produced termly to help Parents plan school events, activities and visits; it also advises the class subjects and projects the children will be studying throughout the term. Parents are welcome to help with class activities and school visits. However, safeguarding our children is a prime concern; therefore all parent helpers will be asked to undergo a CRB check.

We understand that choosing the right school for your child is possibly one of the most difficult decisions ever made. We hope that our prospectus will show something of our knowledge and understanding of the importance of the Early Years Foundation Stage, Infant and Junior years of education for your child. We also hope that our website is both useful an informative.  However, to fully appreciate what we have to offer, we invite you to visit us and see what a special school St Thomas’ is.

Yours sincerely,

Kevin Gawley
