Children are supervised on the Infants’ and Junior Playgrounds from 8.40 a.m. At 8.50 a.m. the supervising teachers blow a whistle for the pupils to line up. Parents are asked to ensure that their children are on the relevant playground by this time. When walking to the Main Buildings by the Staff Car Park, please take care and ensure that you and your children keep to the green paths. If it is raining children should assemble in the Infants’ Hall.
Late arrivals not only disrupt the class but can also cause anxiety in the child arriving late. Late arrivals should report to the school office to be recorded in the ‘late book’ and marked in the register.
If your child has an appointment in school hours, please report to the school office when collecting and returning them to school. In the interest of safety, you will be asked to sign children ‘in’ and
‘out’.
Children who are frequently away from school will not make the best possible progress with their schoolwork. Parents are requested not to keep their children away without good reason. The school should be notified in advance by letter of planned absences, for example, for hospital appointments. Where possible, holidays should not be taken during school terms but, if necessary, the headteacher’s permission must be sought in advance by completing an absence request form, available from the school office, stating the dates on which the child will be absent. Government legislation now states that a maximum of 10 days absence per academic year are allowed for family holidays and any additional days taken are recorded as an unauthorised absence.
We suggest you keep your child at home for at least 24 hours after a bout of sickness or diarrhoea. When a child is away, the school should be phoned on the first morning of absence and, if the illness is prolonged, progress reports are welcomed. It is now a local government requirement that an absence should be explained in writing upon the child’s return to school.
